Meet & Greet: Sara Barrett, Senior PR Account Manager

Red Hot Penny has recently welcomed our new Senior PR Account Manager, Sara Barrett, to the team. Here we ask her a few questions to get to know her better.

What is your employment background?

When finishing University I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do so I decided to travel the world, as you do! After roaming from one continent to another for six months, I then thought the time was right to get a job which is when I saw a role advertised locally for a PR Executive, I applied for the position and got the job. That was my first step into the world of PR. After gaining valuable PR skills, I then went onto another agency in Ascot where I progressed to Account Manager. An opportunity then arose for a position in-house at a major multi-national brand so I decided to take a chance and move across to in-house PR. I was given some fantastic opportunities including managing press trips in exotic locations along with building relationships with key contacts. I was then approached about the opportunity at Red Hot Penny and decided to venture back into agency life as the company has great ambitions and is growing rapidly.

What clients have you worked with in the past?

I have worked with some great brands over the years including Panasonic, O2, Mizuno, Channel 4, Sky, and I’m looking forward to working with many more at RHP.

Do you have any exciting ideas to bring to Red Hot Penny?

Through working in PR for over 9 years I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge which I feel I can bring to my role at RHP. I have worked with many organisations and meet some talented people along the way, all of which has help me develop my PR skills which I hope to utilise at RHP and implement new and innovative ways of working. The world of digital PR and communications is constantly changing and exciting new methods and practices are appearing all the time so it’s imperative we keep up with the industry to offer the best service for our clients.

Why did you choose to join the Red Hot Penny family?

I wasn’t actively looking for a new role so the fact I decided to leave my previous employer of six years speaks volumes about RHP and what we are aiming to achieve. After being approached about the role and meeting the Head of Digital, I knew I had to accept the challenge as the company is growing rapidly which presents great opportunities. RHP’s extensive portfolio of exciting clients speaks for itself, so this coupled with the great people and buzzing atmosphere make it a great place to work…and I’ve only been here a month!

What clients are you working with at present?

I’m working with some very exciting clients including Taylor Morris Eyewear, Vector Watch and Mou London to name but a few, and new clients are coming on board every day so we are in exciting times.

Is there a sector you specialise in?

I have worked across a variety of sectors throughout my career but specialise in consumer technology and lifestyle.

Any exciting developments in your industry or things to look out for?

Yes definitely! There are exciting developments happening every day in digital PR, the rise of social media channels such as Instagram and Twitter allows for instant PR coverage and is a great way to show a brands credentials when the products are visually appealing. SEO and PR need to work together as one entity to get creative, engaging content in front of high authority influencers.
